The Cast and Crew
Woodstock is a small town situated eight miles north of Oxford with a population of some 2600 inhabitants.  It has a number of societies covering most interests including, amongst others, local history, literature, natural history and music.  Amateur drama is represented by the Woodstock Players which, founded over 30 years ago aims to present one or two productions annually in either the Community Centre or the Marlborough. Enterprise Centre, a brand new facility situated at the local secondary school.

Over the years the group has staged a wide variety of plays such as An Inspector Calls (J.B.Priestley), Amadeus (Peter Schaffer), Pygmalion (George Bernard Shaw) and Bedroom Farce (Alan Ayckbourne), but to name a few. Open air productions have included Larkrise (Keith Dewhurst) and Twelfth Night (Shakespeare). During that time numerous actors have tread the boards, gaining much pleasure and enjoyment from their modest annual subscription.

In addition, between productions, we try to arrange social events as a means of keeping in touch with members.  Play readings take place in members’ houses from time to time and an annual dinner in one of the local restaurants or hotels provides an evening enjoyed by many.  At Christmas we have a seasonal get-together and in the summer we participate in the local Woodstock Carnival.

The Players are affiliated to the Oxfordshire Drama Network, an organisation set up to provide help, assistance and advice to amateur groups within the county.  ODN is very active, running an annual drama festival and other events.  A regular newsletter contains information and reviews of member group’s productions.

Woodstock Players welcome new members.  It’s not necessary to have acting skills or, indeed to have the desire to appear on stage, as we are always glad of help in many other ways.  Back stage we need set construction, scenery painting and erection, and operation of stage lighting.  Front of house helpers are always in demand at times of productions.

Without a doubt we would find a job for you. so why not come and join us ?
